The Secret to Travel in Low Budget
For travel lovers like us, travelling will cost a lot if we didn’t plan a budget. The air fares and accommodation will take a big part of our budget and will leave us nothing for shopping. So, we figured out how to travel with a low budget and you can enjoy the maximum shopping experience.
For air fares, we preferably wait for promo season to book the tickets, even if you have to book them a couple months earlier, it is not a problem for us. If you already choose what country you want to visit, just stick with it and wait until there is a promo. If you wanna go to several countries, buying a connecting ticket also is a good option. It is less hassle for travel when you bring lots of luggages.
For accomodation, I will share you the secret to stay in a nice place for cheap. UseAirbnb! I found this site through my friend and I was looking for accommodation in Japan for our honeymoon. Let me tell you more about this:
What is Airbnb
Airbnb is a site that provides rental of someone’s house or room, apartment, flat or loft, for as long as you want to stay, at an affordable price. I have tried this in Japan and it helped us a lot because it can save more budget for shopping. There will be several options that will give you higher prices but it all depends on the location.
Later in this post, I will tell you my experience on Airbnb and I will recommend you places that we already stayed in Japan.
How to use Airbnb
First, you have to know where you want to stay. So, search your destination country or regions. I personally recommend that you need to be specific, so they will narrow down what option you have.
Second, add your check-in and check-out dates and then how many guests will be staying. This will determine what rooms you can get. I will explain it to you down there.
Third, choose what room type you want, they offer entire home/apartment, private room or shared room. You can tick all of them and see which one fits you. Back to how many guests you have chosen, will determine also what rooms you get – this is what I mean, for example, if you choose 2 guests, you will get to stay either with other people in a shared house or shared room or if you want more privacy like honeymoon, you can choose entire home/apartment or private room only.
Last one is to select price range you want. Do not forget what I said earlier that some places will offer you higher prices depending on the location. If you want to be in the city center, definitely the prices will be higher. I’ve found out that if you zoom in the center of places where you want to stay, they will give you more options.
There is an option that will help you a lot if you need an urgent accommodation. It’s called Instant Book which you can book without waiting for the host’s approval.
Our Experience with Airbnb in Japan
Truth to be told, Japan is one of the most expensive countries that we had visited. Before going, we already searched for cheap hotels and turns out they were not cheap. So, we decided to look at Airbnb. What I really love is you can see ratings and comments that people will give about their hosts. So, you just don’t need to choose one blindly.
Since we are travelling to 3 cities, Osaka, Tokyo and Kyoto, we really really need to tighten up the budget for accommodation. While staying in Kyoto, I wanted to experience staying in a typical ‘Ryokan’ (This will be in another post). So, we chose Airbnb for Osaka and Kyoto.
While planning for the trip, we decided to stay in Osaka first, then Tokyo and Kyoto. In Osaka, we’ve found an apartment with a good price and location,. We stayed in Takanori’s apartment which was so easy to find and close to the subway station. What is great also is that it’s near convenience stores, literally just beside the apartement. I really recommend this apartment if you want to stay near Shin-Fukushima. Takanori also provides you a Pocket Wifi, which really helped us to save on budget and avoided the hassle to rent a pocket wifi. Do not forget that he will provide you a Pocket Wifi if you are staying in his place. So, contact him through Airbnb for more details.
*Note: Every place that we stayed in japan is basically not that big, but for 2 persons, it is not a problem.
For staying in Tokyo, what shocked me the most is the cost of the accommodation there. Even the airbnb apartments have higher prices if you didn’t search well but we were able to find a good place in Shinjuku. The host name is Japan Latin Dance Association — you can search what listings option she has. She can also rent a Pocket Wifi and you can choose that if you are planning to stay in Tokyo for the whole vacation.
Airbnb is a good option if you can find a good listing. My suggestion is to look for the ratings that people give. The more popular the place, the more trust you can have staying in that place. Experiencing Airbnb also can be a good option if you want to know how life is in the country you visit. Unlike hotels, the local owners renting their own house/apartment can help you and guide you during your stay. So, try Airbnb. You won’t regret it.
